We have just started to include VR in our R&D workflow. Creating concepts, characters and assets in VR is as efficient as sketching on paper but in a 3D space.

Sketching assets and preparing them for 3D style frames is only one step. Textures, camera angles, basic lighting and even some effects can be sketched right into the concepts and shared with any 3D application. When it comes to integrating 3D assets into live action footage, approaching R&D this way, could give you a good idea of scale and proportion by taking a first look directly in VR.
